As the festive Lunar New Year approaches, Heritage of Mei Ho House has thoughtfully prepared a series of celebratory activities, inviting you to share joyful moments and blessings with your loved ones. This year’s events include DIY workshop of mini Big-Head Buddha, the delightful experience of making traditional New Year treats, and interactive activities like hand-lettered Fai Chun and wishing wooden plaques. Let’s create cherished memories together and welcome a hopeful new year!
Calligraphy of Blessings
This year, we are once again honored to invite Pookoq to have a handwriting Fai Chun session at Mei Ho House, giving New Year blessings to everyone. Handwritten Fai Chun not only allow you to customize your wishes but carry deep blessings behind. Each Fai Chun is a heartfelt creation, showcasing the charm of calligraphy and continuing the tradition of Chinese culture.

Flavors of Fortune: Cooking Workshop
Join us for a delightful cooking workshop to continue our cherished tradition! Led by a member from our alumni network Ms. Lam as our “Head Chef,” participants will learn to make delicious dumplings and glutinous rice balls. The workshop is simple and beginner-friendly, perfect for all ages to enjoy hands-on cooking and create warm memories with family and friends.

Joyful Journey: Mini Big-Head Buddha Creation
During Lunar New Year lion dances, the Big-Head Buddha with a large fan was a familiar sight, leading the lion in dance. Over time, it has become rare, seen only in large lion dance events.
This Lunar New Year, we are honored to invite Hong Kong’s only Big Head Buddha maker, Master Paul Chan, to Mei Ho House to guide participants in creating their own mini Big-Head Buddha. Let’s learn about its history and craft a unique, personalized piece of art.

Wishing Station
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, we have set up a special Wishing Station, inviting everyone to write down their wishes on an Ema! From January 13 to 31, guests staying at YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel can follow the Heritage of Mei Ho House Instagram @heritagemhh and receive a free Ema. On January 19, visitors to the Heritage of Mei Ho House can also get an Ema by following our Instagram. Whether it’s a wish for the future, the realization of dreams, or blessings for family and friends, write it down and hang it with us to complete your wishes as the New Year begins.
