On this year’s Moon Chasing Night (30 September, the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival), YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel will be hosting a Mid-Autumn Festival event – Admiring the Moon at Mei Ho House. With “Moon” as the theme, the event will not only feature a giant moon and rabbit-shaped decorations, but also a series of workshops and booths for the Sham Shui Po neighborhood, hostel guests, and the public. We sincerely invite you to join us with your family and friends to enjoy a memorable and fulfilling Mid-Autumn Festival Moon Chasing Night at Mei Ho House!

The Mid-Autumn Festival activities are divided into Afternoon Workshops and the Moon Chasing Night Gathering. Details of the programs and registration are as follows:
Afternoon Workshops
Icy Mooncake Workshop
Mooncakes are one of the must-have items during the Mid-autumn Festival. Have you ever tried to make mooncakes on your own?
Mic from Mic’s Bakery, an experienced baking class instructor, was invited to teach participants how to make their own smooth and soft icy mooncakes with different colors and fillings in a simple and easy-to-follow way. Upon completion of the workshop, each participant will be able to take away four pieces of icy mooncakes to share with their family and friends and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with their loved ones!
About Mic (@Mic’s Bakery)
Graduated from PME Master Class in the UK, certified instructor of JSA Frosted Cookies in Japan. She has many years of experience in teaching baking classes and is familiar with all kinds of Chinese and Western desserts, using simple and easy-to-follow methods to make students’ creations successful.

Moon Candle Workshop
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in the Chinese community, and the Moon Candle Workshop is an event where people can create their own moon-shaped candles. Participants could learn the basic techniques of candle-making and color-mixing skills. In addition, participants could create their unique candles by mixing different colors of wax and essential oils according to their preferences and ideas, creating their personalized moon-shaped candles.
Upon completion, participants could take their creations home and light them up with family and friends to celebrate this special festival. These handmade candles not only have a unique value but also become a symbol of fond memories.
About Scent Sense (@scent.sense.hk)
Founded in 2020, Scent Sense Art Studio is a candle-making studio and art gallery run by two siblings, Yoyo Lam and Tim Lam. They are both certified instructors of CLAB, the Korean Candle Association.

Moon Picture Books Sharing
Two picture book authors, Orangie and Momo Leung, will take you deep into their creative worlds and share their inspirations and stories in their picture books. Through two picture books inspired by the moon, Strange Shadows and When I Meet You, the authors will read out their own picture book stories and have interactive sessions where participants can take part in making little souvenirs related to the picture book stories and immerse themselves in an imaginative starry sky.
Whether you are a child or an adult, picture books can always touch the softest part of our hearts and evoke thoughts about fantasy, relatives, and family. This Mid-Autumn Festival let’s explore the magic of picture books together!
Moon Picture Books Sharing: Strange Shadow
The little girl has an animal shadow that represents herself, but one day her shadow becomes more and more strange!!! Can the appearance of the moon help her find her shadow back?
With the old Hong Kong as the background, the picture book takes participants back to their childhood, finds the child in their hearts, and has a dialogue with their inner child.

A native of Hong Kong, a public housing girl, who loved to fantasize and dream when she was a child, but she became a realistic and rational adult when she grew up. One day, she suddenly remembered that she was once a child, so she decided to regain her favorite words and paintings, and now enjoy the freedom of creation in her spare time. She looks like a normal person on the outside, but she is a weirdo on the inside, she is a beautiful weirdo.

Moon Picture Books Sharing: When I Meet You
Inspired by the astronomical phenomenon of the sun and moon shining together, how did the sun and the moon come to meet?
In this Mid-Autumn Festival, open the picture book and embark on a thoughtful journey of day and night’s pursuit.
About the picture book author: Momo Leung (@yellowwhitestone):
A full-time freelance illustrator known for her fantastical and intricate style. She is a professional member and committee member of the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators. With years of experience in illustration, her works have been selected for numerous exhibitions. Her illustration style is characterized by its fantastical and delicate nature, and she enjoys incorporating natural elements. She excels in using watercolors, pencils, and colored pencils as mediums. She actively engages in creating various original illustrations, giving lectures, providing art education as a mentor, and creating personal picture books. Her illustration book When I Meet You won the second-place award in the picture book creation competition.

Mid-autumn Moon Chasing Night Gathering
Moon Lamp DIY Booth
After the night of chasing the moon, we have to wait for the next full moon. Have you ever imagined to pick the moon from the sky?
There will be a Moon Lamp DIY booth at the Mid-autumn Moon Chasing Night Gathering. Participants can make their moon lamps with simple materials and steps, creating a romantic full moon night for themselves every night.
Time: 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm, 30-minute session
Venue: Back Courtyard, YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel
Target: Aged 6 or above, participants aged below 12 must be accompanied by a parent or adult.

Face Painting Booth
Face painter Violet will be present at the Mid-Autumn Moon Chasing Night. Participants will be able to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival by painting festive designs on their faces and bodies to add to the festive atmosphere.

Full Moon at Mei Ho House Coloring Corner
A coloring corner will be set up for the event, with several patterns related to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Feel free to add color to the moonlit night by expressing your creativity.

Heritage of Mei Ho House Public Guided Tour
On the Moon Chasing Night, apart from joining the evening activities and experiencing the festive atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Heritage of Mei Ho House has also arranged a special evening guided tour for the public to learn about the life of the residents of the resettlement estates in those years, as well as the neighborhood relationship and affection in the past.

Enrolment: No advance booking is required. Please register at the main entrance of the Heritage of Mei Ho House 15 minutes before the tour begins
Important Notes:
- Activities will be conducted in Cantonese.
- Only for members of “Mei Ho House Alumni Network”, free registration can be done online or on-site at https://www.yha.org.hk/hmhh/become-a-member/
- YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel reserves the right to alter, amend or withdraw the programmes in case of weather or special circumstances.
- To coincide with the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, the Heritage of Mei Ho House will be open until 9:00 p.m., and you are welcome to visit with your family and friends.
- You are welcome to bring your lanterns, mooncakes, and fruits to share and enjoy the moonlight together. Please note that no lighting of fire is allowed in the area of the Youth Hostel.
