Heritage of Mei Ho House is launched
Showcasing the lifestyle of residents in public housing estates between the 1950s and 1970s, Heritage of Mei Ho House was formally opened on 21 October, 2013. Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration, HKSAR, together with Mr .Michael Wong, Chairman, Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association, and other honoured guests, Ms. Grace Lui, Acting Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr. Jimmy Kwok, Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Council, and Dr. Joseph Ting, Advisor of Heritage of Mei Ho House Working Group, officiated at the opening ceremony.
This ceremony also marked the soft launch of the Association’s flagship YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel . Mrs. Carrie Lam visited Heritage of Mei Ho House and a standard, hostel twin room on the same day. She expressed the hope that overseas visitors will not only see Mei Ho House as an historic structure, but also understand the symbolism that it represents in the post-war development of public housing in Hong Kong and the history and culture of Sham Shui Po and other urban areas within the territory.
