YHA MEI HO HOUSE YOUTH HOSTEL:
MEI HO HOUSE WITH THE MOONLIGHT GLOW OF INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE
The Mid-Autumn Festival has always been our annual major event. The residents of Sham Shui Po and volunteers can gather to celebrate the festival. Supported by the Sham Shui Po District Council, the event titled “Mei Ho House with the Moonlight Glow of Intangible Cultural Heritage” was held on 30 September (Sat). It aimed at recreating the past scenes of festive celebration and conserving the important intangible cultural heritage items.
Four workshops of the event were well received by the participants of different ages. In the workshops, they could not only gain an understanding of the traditional paper-cutting art but also could learn the ways of making the nostalgic handmade festive toy which was very popular among children in 1960s. All of the participants enjoyed playing it!

In the night gathering, a number of former residents brought along the elders and the kids to watch the shadow and puppet show, had a taste of blowing sugar and also tried throwing the “airplane olive” onto the floors of the youth hostel.
