【HONG KONG】WATERFALL IN A PUBLIC HOUSING?
IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
2015-03-02

Situated in the Southern District on Hong Kong Island, Wah Fu Estate stands right near the seaside, with an architectural design vastly different from the previous “central corridor” style (Mei Ho House!) and “linked terrace” style. It is in fact one of the first batch twin-tower buildings in Hong Kong.
In Wah Fu Estate, the buildings by the seaside are usually shorter while the ones further from the water are twin towers with 20+ floors. This setting allows many Wah Fu residents to enjoy the magnificent sea view even at home. Flats are also extraordinarily equipped with terrace, which is why it’s called the “mansion for the ordinary”.
Wah Fu Wet Market also has a unique architectural design – the decorative concrete grilles on the outer wall is completely retained, which add an artistic sense to the hustle wet markets.

The hidden waterfall
Adjacent to Wah Fu Estate is a bay named Waterfall Bay. Beyond imagination, its name does not fail us – there is really a hidden waterfall with running waters!
It is striking to know that we actually have a waterfall in Hong Kong, and it is even situated within a public housing. Amazing! But the ironic part is, when you look up, you’ll see Residence Bel-Air, the “rich-people house”. Well, the city and nature is always this intimate in Hong Kong.
Waves rush in rhythmically to form a romantic scene. Many come here especially for the stunning sea view and sunset view.
We were fortunate enough to share the fisherman’s joy of catching a big fish!
After a long day, this old-style café is a perfect place to relax. Try their signature dishes – Satay Beef noodles and the hot egg tarts, and have a taste of their overflowing warmth and friendliness.
