From the past to the present, theatres have always been places that bear the missions of promoting film culture and providing leisure to people. As technology advances, theatres nowadays are fully furnished with 3D or even 4D equipment, pampering audience with the ultimate visual x auditory x sensual enjoyment.

However, if you wish to enjoy movies in a traditional theatre, keep an old-style paper ticket and have your seat allocated manually, we’d strongly recommend you this over 40-year-old “LUX Theatre” in Bulkeley Street, Hung Hom!

“LUX Theatre” is the lowest tickets price in Hong Kong. Movie lovers must visit “LUX Theatre” to have a taste of 1970s traditional theatres.
“The LUX Theatre in the past” exhibition is held on the 1st floor, featuring old movie tickets, release schedules and an antique 35mm film camera.

Being the only traditional theatre with paper tickets still standing in the city, they do not have any computer ticketing systems, but the ticketing lobby retains the original 1970s decoration with white marble walls and white florescent tubes. There’s also a nostalgic weighing machine which still prints out weighing cards, each trial costs $ 2.

Walking up to the 1st floor, you’ll find “The LUX Theatre in the past “exhibition featuring old movie tickets, release schedules and an old 35mm film camera. This place is just like a time machine that brings you back to the 1970s.

The theatre was refurbished completely in 2012 where they installed a digital projection systems including a 7.1 Dolby sound system; and a small stage in front of the screen for hosting seminars and other activities. Well, but the most attractive part is yet to come – they actually have the lowest ticket prices in Hong Kong! Ticket price for 2D movies is only $45 while that for 3D movies is only $50!
